To help overcome the anxiety, which I have been suffering with for years, whilst on a journey through New York I kept a copy of Sophie Calle's 'Double Game' book by my side. As I read it I became intrigued by her technique of appropriating elements of Paul Aster's character Maria from his novel 'Leviathan',1992. (almost a reversal of his own technique of basing elements of Maria on Calle herself). What Calle did was use these elements to create her own blend of reality and fiction.

This initial insight enabled me to create my own character, a different version of another aspect of my personality in which I was more confident. This in turn gave me the power to record my journey through this location.
